432 — Muhammad told me: Dāwūd ibn al-Muhabbar told us: Sawāda ibn Abī al-Aswad told us, on the authority of his father, who said: A group of Kufans came to al-Hasan ibn Ali—may Allah be pleased with them both—while he was eating. They greeted him and sat down. Al-Hasan said to them, “Food is too slight a matter for anyone to need to insist upon it with an oath. When you enter a man’s home and he sets food before you, eat from it. Do not wait for him to say, ‘Come and eat,’ for food is set out to be eaten.” The men then came forward and ate. Afterward, they told him what they needed, and he granted their request.
