428 — Muhammad ibn al-Husayn told me: al-Salt ibn Hakīm told us: Khālid ibn Nāfi al-Asharī told us, on the authority of Alī ibn Ubayd Allah al-Ghatafānī, who said: I heard al-Shabī say: Abdullah ibn Jafar had a claim of fifty thousand against a man from Medina. The man sought Ubayd Allah ibn Abbas’s intercession with Abdullah in the matter. Abdullah said, “I have waived half of it for him and deferred the other half until he is able to pay.” Ubayd Allah prayed that he be rewarded with goodness and departed. Ibn Jafar then sent a messenger after him, saying, “I have now remitted the other half for him as well.”
