424 — Abū Muhammad al-Tamīmī narrated to us, from ‘Alī ibn Muhammad al-Qurashī, from Yazīd ibn Yazīd, who said: Hakīm ibn Hizām said:

“Whenever I awoke in the morning and found at my door someone seeking help with a need that had overwhelmed him, and I fulfilled it, I counted that among the blessings for which I praise Allah. Whenever I awoke in the morning and found no one at my door seeking help with a need, I counted that among the afflictions for which I ask Allah—glorious is His majesty—to reward me.”
