417 — Hārūn ibn Ma‘rūf narrated to us; Damra ibn Rabī‘a narrated to us; ‘Abd Allah ibn Shawdhab narrated to us, from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Qāsim, from Kathīr, the freedman of ‘Abd al-Rahmān ibn Samura, who said: “When the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—was equipping the Army of Hardship, ‘Uthmān ibn ‘Affān—may Allah be pleased with him—came with one thousand dinars in his garment and poured them into the Prophet’s lap. The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—began turning them over and saying, ‘Whatever ‘Uthmān does after this will not harm him,’ repeating this several times.”
