410 — Al-Hasan ibn al-Sabbāh narrated to me, saying: Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hanbal narrated to me, saying: Sufyān narrated to us, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from Atā ibn Yasār, that some people came to the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—asking him to meet a need. When he saw them and became aware of them, and had nothing at hand, he rose to go inside. One of them caught up with him and clung to his garment, tearing it. The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—then went inside.

Later, they came to him after something had reached him. They asked him, and he ordered that something be given to them. They said, “O Messenger of Allah, absolve us of blame for tearing your garment.” He replied, “That was caused by my recoiling from you.”
