408 — Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ayyūb narrated to us: Ibrāhīm ibn Sa‘d narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishāq, who said: Abd Allāh ibn Abī Bakr narrated to me that a man among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—who had been present with him at Hunayn said:
“By Allah, I was riding beside the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—on a she-camel of mine, wearing a thick sandal. My she-camel jostled the she-camel of the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and the edge of my sandal struck the shin of the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and hurt him. He struck my foot with his whip and said, ‘You have hurt me, so move back from me.’ I therefore withdrew.
“The next day, the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—was looking for me. I said, ‘By Allah, this must be because I struck the foot of the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—yesterday.’ I came to him apprehensively, and he said to me, ‘Yesterday your sandal struck my foot and hurt me, so I struck your foot with the whip. I have summoned you so that I may compensate you.’ The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—then gave me eighty ewes in compensation for the blow with which he had struck me.”
