406 — Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ayyūb narrated to us: Ibrāhīm ibn Sad narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishāq, who said: Abū Wajza Yazīd ibn Ubayd al-Sadī narrated to me, saying:
When al-Shaymā bint al-Hārith ibn Abd al-Uzzā, the Messenger of Allah’s foster sister, was brought before the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—she said, “O Messenger of Allah, I am your sister.” He asked, “What proof do you have of that?” She replied, “The bite you gave me on my back while I was carrying you on my hip.” The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—recognized the mark. He spread out his cloak for her, then said, “Sit here,” and seated her upon it. He then offered her a choice, saying, “If you wish, you will be loved and honored in my care; and if you wish, I shall provide for you and you may return to your people.”
She replied, “Rather, provide for me and return me to my people.” The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—therefore provided for her and returned her to her people. The Banū Sad ibn Bakr claimed that he gave her a male slave of his named Makhūl and a slave woman. She married them to one another, and some of their descendants continued to live among the Banū Sad thereafter.
