Makarim al-AkhlaqIbn Abi al-Dunya

401 — Muhammad ibn al-Husayn narrated to me: Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd Allah ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, saying: Musʿab ibn Thābit ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Zubayr narrated to us, from his father, that Quraysh were afflicted by a severe famine. The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—sent Abū Sufyān a load of gold pieces and said, “Distribute it among your people.” When the consignment reached Abū Sufyān, he said, “Muhammad insists on maintaining the ties of kinship.” Musʿab said, “He sent it to them when they were more fiercely opposed to him than ever.”
