382 — Khālid ibn Khidāsh narrated to us. He said: Hammād ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Thābit, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—was the best of people, the most generous of people, and the bravest of people. Once, the people of Medina were alarmed, so they set off toward the sound. The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—met them after having gone ahead of them. He was riding an unsaddled horse belonging to Abū Talha, with a sword slung around his neck, and he was saying, ‘Do not be alarmed! Do not be alarmed!’ He then said, ‘We found it exceedingly swift’—or, ‘It is certainly exceedingly swift.’ The horse had previously been considered slow, but after that day it was never outstripped.”
