Makarim al-AkhlaqIbn Abi al-Dunya

366 — Ibn Jamīl narrated to us, saying: Abdullāh narrated to us; Sālih ibn Abī al-Akhdar narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from Urwa, from Aisha—may Allah be pleased with her—who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever receives a kindness should reciprocate it. If he is unable to do so, let him acknowledge it, for whoever acknowledges it has thereby shown gratitude. Whoever makes a show of having received what he did not receive is like one wearing two garments of falsehood.”
