31 — Al-Hasan ibn al-Sabbāh narrated to me. Sufyān ibn Uyayna narrated to us, from Amr ibn Dīnār, from Abū al-Minhāl, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, passed by a man who owned a large herd of camels, sheep, and cattle. He asked the man for hospitality, but the man did not receive him. He then passed by a woman who owned only a few sheep. He asked her for hospitality, and she received him and slaughtered an animal for him. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “Have you not considered so-and-so, whom we passed while he possessed a large herd of camels, sheep, and cattle? We asked him for hospitality, but he did not receive us. Then we passed by this woman, who had only a few sheep. We asked her for hospitality, and she received us and slaughtered an animal for us. These qualities are in the hand of Allah, Glorious and Exalted. If He wills to grant someone a good quality from among them, He does so.”
