269 — ʿAlī ibn Shuʿayb narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Majīd narrated to us, saying: Yazīd ibn Hayyān, the brother of Muqātil ibn Hayyān, narrated to me, saying: ʿUmar ibn al-Khattāb—may Allah be pleased with him—used to say, “Do not be deceived by a man’s murmuring at night—meaning his prayer. A man in the fullest sense is one who returns a trust to the person who entrusted him with it, and from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe.”
