261 — ʿUqba ibn Mukram narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn ʿUthmān narrated to us, from Shuʿba, from al-ʿAlāʾ ibn ʿAbd al-Rahmān, from his father, from Abū Hurayra, that a man said, “O Messenger of Allah, I have relatives whose offenses I bear with forbearance, yet they behave foolishly toward me. I maintain ties with them, yet they cut me off, and I treat them well, yet they treat me badly.” He said, “If you are as you say, you will continue to make them swallow hot ashes, and you will continue to have a supporter from Allah, Mighty and Majestic.”
