25 — Ishāq ibn Ismā'īl narrated to us. He said: Sufyān narrated to us; Umayy al-Sayrafī narrated to us. He said: Gabriel, peace be upon him, came to him and said, “Make allowances, enjoin what is right, and turn away from the ignorant” [al-A'rāf: 199]. He asked, “O Gabriel, what does this mean?” Gabriel replied, “I do not know until I ask the All-Knowing One.” He then returned to him and said, “O Muhammad, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, commands you to maintain ties with those who cut you off, give to those who deprive you, and pardon those who wrong you.”
