Makarim al-AkhlaqIbn Abi al-Dunya

235 — Ibn Jamīl narrated to us. He said: ʿAbd Allah narrated to us. He said: Shuʿba narrated to us, from Saʿīd ibn Abī Burda, from his father, who said: Ibn Umar was circumambulating the Kaaba when he saw a man circumambulating while carrying his mother and reciting:

[rajaz meter]

“I am her camel, docile and mild;
Should her mounts take fright, I do not start.
I carry her, though she carried me more.”

Or he said, “longer.” The man asked, “Do you think I have repaid her, Ibn Umar?” He replied, “No—not even for a single groan.”
