202 — Ishāq ibn Ismāʿīl narrated to us: Abū Usāma narrated to us, saying: I heard al-Aʿmash relate from Abū Ishāq, who said: When ʿIkrima ibn Abī Jahl embraced Islam, he came to the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—and said, “O Messenger of Allah, I will not leave any stand I took to turn people away from the path of Allah without taking an equivalent stand in the cause of Allah; nor will I leave any sum I spent to turn people away from the path of Allah without spending an equivalent sum in the cause of Allah.” At the Battle of al-Yarmūk—or some other battle—he fought fiercely, and they found on his body seventy-odd wounds from thrusts, shots, and blows.
