200 — Abū Bakr ibn Aslam narrated to us: al-Nadr ibn Shumayl narrated to us, saying: Shuʿba narrated to us, from Abū Ishāq, who said: I heard Hassān ibn Fāʾid say: I heard ʿUmar ibn al-Khattāb—may Allah be pleased with him—say, “Cowardice and courage are innate dispositions in people. You may encounter a man who fights on behalf of someone he does not know, and you may encounter a man who flees, abandoning his own father.”
