Makarim al-AkhlaqIbn Abi al-Dunya

194 — My father—may Allah have mercy on him—related to me, from Hishām ibn Muhammad, from his father, who said: I heard Abd Allāh ibn Abī Aqīl al-Thaqafī, a paternal uncle of al-Hajjāj ibn Yūsuf’s father and an authority on the Arabs, say:

“The horsemen of the Arabs were four: Bishr ibn Amr ibn Marthad ibn Saʿd ibn Mālik ibn Dubayʿa; Utayba ibn al-Hārith al-Yarbūʿī; Sakhr ibn Amr ibn al-Hārith ibn al-Sharīd al-Sulamī; and Āmir ibn al-Tufayl.”

A man from Banū Asad who was with him replied, “By Allah, an even finer horseman than these men was the one who killed Bishr, Sakhr, and Utayba, and stabbed Āmir in the buttocks, leaving him crippled by the wound.” Abd Allāh fell silent, for the killers of those men belonged to Banū Asad.
