191 — Al-Abbās ibn Hishām reported to me, from his father, who said: Abd al-Malik watched him charging the enemy single-handedly and said, “By Allah, this is just as one of old said:

[al-Kāmil meter]

Many an armored warrior, whom champions dreaded to face—
Neither fleeing far nor yielding in surrender.

This is the man who neither accepts our offer of safe-conduct nor flees from us.”
