Makarim al-AkhlaqIbn Abi al-Dunya

182 — Al-Hasan ibn Hammād al-Dabbī narrated to us; he said: Aththām ibn Alī informed me, from al-Amash, from Abū Khālid al-Wālibī, from Jābir ibn Samura, who said:

“Sad and I went out on an expedition, and we were put to flight. Sad looked back and saw a man’s leg protruding from the stirrup of his camel saddle. He shot him with an arrow, and I can still see the blood, as though it were a sandal thong. The man cried, ‘Ah! Ah!’ Sad was the first person to shoot an arrow in Islam.”
