149 — Ahmad ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us. He said: Uthmān ibn Umar narrated to us. He said: Yūnus—that is, Ibn Yazīd—narrated to us, from Abū Shaddād, from Mujāhid, that Asmā bint Umays said: “I was Aisha’s attendant— the woman who prepared her and brought her to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him—and I was accompanied by a group of women. By Allah, the only refreshment we found with him was a cup of milk. He drank from it and then handed it to Aisha—may Allah have mercy on her. The young woman felt shy, so I said, ‘Do not turn away the hand of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him; take it from him.’ She took it from him shyly and drank from it. Then he said, ‘Pass it to your companions.’ We said, ‘We do not want any.’ He said, ‘Do not combine hunger with lying.’ I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, if one of us says of something she wants, “I do not want it,” is that counted as a lie?’ He replied, ‘Indeed, a lie is recorded as a lie; even a little lie is recorded as a little lie.’”
