143 — ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Bahr narrated to me: Abū ʿAqīl narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Nuʿaym, the freedman of ʿUmar ibn al-Khattāb, from Muhammad ibn ʿUmar ibn ʿAlī ibn Abī Tālib, from his grandfather ʿAlī—may Allah be pleased with him—who said:
“The adornment of speech is truthfulness. The gravest sin in the sight of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, is a lying tongue. The worst reproach is that which one of you directs at himself at the time of death, and the worst regret is regret on the Day of Resurrection.”
