Makarim al-AkhlaqIbn Abi al-Dunya

134 — Al-Husayn ibn ʿAbd al-Rahmān narrated to us, from some of his teachers, from al-ʿAlā ibn al-Minhāl, who said: “A man from Ghanī came to Khāqān as part of an Arab delegation. The man had a conspicuous wound on his face. Khāqān asked him, ‘In what battle did you receive this?’—meaning the wound—for he assumed that it was a sword wound. The man replied, ‘A horse of mine kicked me.’ Khāqān said, ‘His truthfulness pleases me more than what I had supposed. How excellent truth is!’ He then doubled the man’s award.”
