120 — Alī ibn al-Jad narrated to us: Shuba narrated to us, from Yazīd ibn Khumayr, who said: I heard Sulaym ibn Āmir narrate from Awsat ibn Ismāīl ibn Awsat that, one year after the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, passed away, he heard Abū Bakr al-Siddīq, may Allah be pleased with him, say: “The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, stood where I now stand one year ago.” Abū Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, then wept and said: “Adhere to truthfulness, for it accompanies righteousness, and both are in Paradise. Beware of lying, for it accompanies wickedness, and both are in the Fire. Ask Allah, Mighty and Majestic, to keep you safe from harming others and from being harmed by them, for after certainty no one has been given anything better than such safety. Do not sever relations, turn your backs on one another, envy one another, or hate one another. Be brothers, O servants of Allah.”
