98 – The judge Abū al-Qāsim informed us; Abū ʿAlī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Khālid ibn Khidāsh ibn ʿAjlān narrated to us; Ḥammād ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Ayyūb, from Yaḥyā ibn Abī Kathīr, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Qatādah, who related that Abū Qatādah once pursued a man who owed him money. The debtor hid from him, but when Abū Qatādah later found him the man said, “I am in hardship and cannot pay.” Abū Qatādah asked, “By Allah?” He replied, “By Allah.” Abū Qatādah then said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Whoever wishes Allah to rescue him from the distress of the Day of Resurrection should grant respite to an insolvent person, or else waive the debt altogether.’”
