90 – The judge Abū al-Qāsim informed us; Abū ʿAlī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān related to me, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿIjlī, who said:
A man once asked Ibn Shubruma to take care of several needs, and he met them all. Later he approached him with another request, but this time it was not within his power, so the man reproached him. Hibban ibn ʿAlī thereupon remarked, “By Allah, when a man’s abundant gratitude for the many favors I bestowed on him is missing, then denying him a small favor because of his scant thanks is only right.” Ibn Shubruma then said to me, “By Allah, before long that will be exactly how the people of Kufah behave.”
