Qada' al-Hawa'ijIbn Abi al-Dunya

85 – The judge Abū al-Qāsim informed us; Abū ʿAlī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Ibn ʿĀʾisha recited:
[in the al-baḥr al-ṭawīl metre]
“I shall praise ʿAmr—if my death is deferred—
for benefits he granted, free of condescension, lofty though they were.
A youth whose wealth is never veiled from a friend,
who never voices complaint when the sandal slips.
He perceived my need where its place was hidden,
and it stung his eyes like a mote until he removed it.”

86 – Abū Zakariyyā al-Khathʿamī recited:
[in the al-baḥr al-mutaqārib metre]
“He appeared to his brothers at the hour their thirst was quenched,
and lessened for them the talons of want.
Prudent fear of time’s reversals alarmed him,
so he hastened to kindness before regret could arrive.”
