Qada' al-Hawa'ijIbn Abi al-Dunya

62 – The judge Abū al-Qāsim informed us; Abū ʿAlī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Abū Jaʿfar al-Madīnī related to me, from a shaykh of Quraysh, who said: Asmāʾ ibn Khārijah declared:

When stealthy worries steal a youth’s repose
And drive his mind to toil while night is dense,
And he seeks me at dawn, for no refuge he knows
Save me, nor any aid against fate’s offense,
I scatter his grief with the wealth in my hand—
At once the intruding, clinging care takes flight.

He (the narrator) added from another source:

Thus, merely for holding a good thought of me
He earned a claim upon me—and for that thought I am grateful.
