59 – The judge Abū al-Qāsim informed us; Abū ʿAlī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn narrated to me; Yaʿqūb al-Zuhrī narrated to us, saying: I heard al-Darāwardī say: It was asked of Muʿāwiyah ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar, “How great was ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar’s generosity?” He replied, “He considered no wealth to be his alone; he and the people were partners in whatever he possessed. Whoever requested something from him, he gave it; whoever sought a gift, he bestowed it. He never imagined that poverty might befall him and so restrain himself, nor did he think he would ever need anything and therefore save it up.”
