54 – The judge Abū al-Qāsim informed us, saying: Abū ʿAlī narrated to us; ʿAbdullāh narrated to us; Ziyād ibn Ayyūb narrated to us; Muṣʿab ibn Salām narrated to us; Abū al-Faḍl ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Qurashī narrated to us; ʿAmr ibn Dīnār narrated, saying: The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said, “Seek your needs from those of pleasant countenance. If such a person grants your request, he grants it with a cheerful face; and if he turns you down, he turns you down with a cheerful face. Many a handsome-faced man proves blameworthy when a need is sought from him, while many an ill-favored face proves praiseworthy when a need is sought from him.”
