44 – The judge Abū al-Qāsim informed us; Abū ʿAlī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to me; Ibn ʿĀʾisha narrated to us, from Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAmr al-Bajalī; Mindal ibn ʿAlī narrated to us, from Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad, from his father, from ʿAlī—may Allah ennoble his face—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him:
“O ʿAlī, be generous, for Allah Most High loves generosity; be courageous, for Allah Most High loves courage; and be protective, for Allah loves the protective man. If someone asks you to meet a need, then fulfill it; and if he is not worthy of it, you be worthy of it for him.”
٤٤ - أَخْبَرَنَا الْقَاضِي أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَائِشَةَ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْبَجَلِيِّ، حَدَّثَنَا مِنْدَلُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ﵁، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَهُ: «يَا عَلِيُّ، كُنْ سَخِيًّا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى يُحِبُّ السَّخَاءَ، وَكُنْ شُجَاعًا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى يُحِبُّ الشُّجَاعَ، وَكُنْ غَيُورًا فَإِنَ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْغَيُورَ، وَإِنِ امْرُؤٌ سَأَلَكَ حَاجَةً فَاقْضِهَا، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهَا أَهْلًا فَكُنْ أَنْتَ لَهَا أَهْلًا»
