42 – The judge Abū al-Qāsim informed us; Abū ʿAlī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; and al-ʿAbbās ibn Hishām ibn Muḥammad also informed me, from his father, who said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar said, “The generous man is not the one who gives only after being asked; the truly generous man is the one who takes the initiative—for what the petitioner surrenders of his dignity is harder on him than the wealth he receives.”
