4 – The judge Abū al-Qāsim informed us; Abū ʿAlī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Abū Hammām al-Sakūnī related to me; Abū Yaḥyā al-Thaqafī narrated to us, from al-Ḥārith al-Numayrī, from Abū Hārūn, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī—who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“Allah, exalted is He, has appointed certain people among His creation as channels of benevolence: He has made them love doing good and has endeared its practice to them. He directs those who seek kindness toward them and makes it easy for them to give—just as He sends rain to a barren land so that it may be revived and its inhabitants given life.

Conversely, Allah has created others who are enemies of benevolence: He has made them detest goodness and its performance, and He has withheld from them the ability to give—just as He withholds rain from a barren land, causing it and its people to perish. And what He overlooks is even greater.”
