117 – The judge Abū al-Qāsim informed us; Abū ʿAlī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Isḥāq ibn Ismāʿīl told me; ʿUmar ibn Ḥafṣ told me; my father narrated to us; al-Aʿmash said: I heard Yazīd al-Raqāshī relate from Anas ibn Mālik, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
"The people of Hell will be ordered to line up, and they will stand in rows. A Muslim man will pass by them, and one of them will call out, ‘O so-and-so, intercede for me!’ He will answer, ‘And who are you?’ ⦗99⦘ The man will say, ‘Do you not recognize me? I am the one who, when you asked me for water, gave you something to drink.’ The Prophet continued: so the Muslim will intercede for him. Then another man will say the same, declaring, ‘I am the one who, when you asked me for a gift, I granted it to you.’"
