116 – The judge Abū al-Qāsim informed us; Abū ʿAlī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Jarīr Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Azdī narrated to me; Yaʿqūb ibn Bashīr Abū Bishr al-Ḥadhdhāʾ al-ʿAnazī narrated to us; Khāzim ibn Marwān al-ʿAnazī narrated to us; ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib narrated to me, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Those who practiced maʿrūf (acts of kindness) in this world will be the people of maʿrūf in the Hereafter, and those who practiced munkar (wrongdoing) in this world will be ⦗98⦘ the people of munkar in the Hereafter. Indeed, Allah will resurrect each act of kindness on the Day of Resurrection in the form of a Muslim man. It will come to its doer as soon as his grave splits open, wipe the dust from his face, and say, ‘Rejoice, O friend of Allah, in His safety and honor; let none of the terrors you behold on the Day of Resurrection alarm you.’
It will continue reassuring him: ‘Beware of this; keep away from that,’ soothing his fear until it escorts him across the ṣirāṭ (the Bridge over Hell). Once he has crossed the ṣirāṭ, the friend of Allah will turn aside with it to his dwellings in Paradise. Then the act of kindness will withdraw, whereupon he will cling to it and say, ‘Servant of Allah, who are you? All creatures forsook me amid the horrors of the Resurrection except you—so who are you?’
It will reply, ‘Do you not recognize me?’ He will answer, ‘No.’ It will say, ‘I am the act of kindness you performed in the world. Allah has brought me into bodily form so that I may reward you for it today, on the Day of Resurrection.’”
