110 – The judge Abū al-Qāsim informed us; Abū ʿAlī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to me, saying: “Ziyād al-Aʿjam came in to ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿĀmir ibn Kurayz and recited:
A brother you will find, whenever fate allows a meeting,
who greets you through all trials with a smiling, open hand;
A brother whose affection is undiluted and enduring—
when poverty revisits his friend, he rushes back again;
We asked him for abundance, he never balked or lingered—
he gave beyond our hopes and even added more;
He did good, then better still; we returned, and still he bettered—
I went once more, and once again he matched my plea;
Time after time I visit, and every time I find him
laughing in welcome as he doubles up the cushion for me.”
