109 – The judge Abū al-Qāsim informed us; Abū ʿAlī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; al-Ḥasan ibn Yaḥyā ibn Kathīr narrated to me, from Khuzaymah Abū Muḥammad al-ʿĀbid, who said:
“Jaʿfar al-Aḥmar once came to Yaḥyā ibn Salamah ibn Kuhayl to borrow thirty dinars. He said, ‘O Yaḥyā, why would you put yourself through the humiliation of coming in person? Had you only sent me a little note, I would have sent it to you right away.’
When Jaʿfar later produced the note, someone mentioned the matter to Yaḥyā. He replied, ‘I have not handed it to him, while what I really want is to take it from him.’”
