106 – The judge Abū al-Qāsim informed us; Abū ʿAlī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl ibn Yūsuf narrated to me; Aṣbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Wahb narrated to us and said: Jarīr ibn Ḥāzim told me, from Ayyūb ibn Abī Tamīmah, from Yaḥyā ibn Abī Kathīr, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Qatādah, from his father:
He was pursuing a man who owed him money, but the debtor had gone into hiding. When he finally located him he asked, “What made you do that?” The man replied, “Hardship.” He then placed him under oath, and the man swore it was so. Thereupon he called for the bond, handed it over to him, and said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Whoever grants a reprieve to an insolvent debtor, or reduces the debt for him, Allah will deliver him from the distress of the Day of Resurrection.’”
