103 – The judge Abū al-Qāsim informed us; Abū ʿAlī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Bishr ibn Muʿādh al-ʿAqadī told me; al-Ḥakam ibn Sinān narrated to us; Mālik ibn Dīnār said:
Al-Hasan dispatched Muḥammad ibn Nūḥ and Ḥumayd al-Ṭawīl to take care of a need on behalf of his brother, instructing them, “Tell Thābit al-Bunnānī to set out with you.” When they delivered the request, Thābit replied, “I am observing iʿtikāf (seclusion in the mosque).” Ḥumayd went back to al-Hasan and reported what Thābit had said. Al-Hasan then told him, “Return to him and say, ‘O ʿUmaysh, do you not realize that walking to fulfill your brother’s need is better for you than pilgrimage after pilgrimage?’”
