I was sitting with the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, when Abū Bakr and ʿUmar approached. When Allah’s Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saw them, he said: “O ʿAlī, these two are the leaders of the middle-aged men among the people of Paradise, from the earliest generations to the last, except for the prophets and messengers.” Then he said: “O ʿAlī, do not tell them.”
