80 — ‘Abdullāh narrated to us: My father narrated to us: Abū Sa‘īd, the client of Banū Hāshim, narrated to us: Qays ibn al-Rabī‘ narrated to us, saying: ‘Abdullāh ibn Abī al-Safar narrated to me, from Ibn Shurahbīl, from Ibn ‘Abbās, from al-‘Abbās, who said:

I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while his wives were with him. They screened themselves from me, except for Maymūnah. He said, “No one in the house who witnessed medicine being poured into the side of my mouth shall be spared having the same done to him. My oath, however, does not include al-‘Abbās.”

Then he said, “Tell Abū Bakr to lead the people in prayer.” ‘Ā’ishah said to Hafsah, “Tell him: Abū Bakr is a man who weeps when he stands in that position.” He said, “Tell Abū Bakr to lead the people in prayer.” So Abū Bakr stood up and led the prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) felt some relief and came out. Abū Bakr stepped back, intending to withdraw, but the Prophet sat beside him and then began reciting.
