435 - Abd Allāh narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me, saying: Hushaym narrated to us, saying: Humayd informed us, from Anas, who said: Umar said:

“I agreed with my Lord on three matters. I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, if only you would take the Station of Abraham as a place of prayer!’ Then it was revealed: ‘And take the Station of Abraham as a place of prayer’ [al-Baqara: 125].

“And I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, both the righteous and the wicked enter your wives’ presence. If only you would instruct them to observe the screen!’ Then the verse concerning the screen was revealed.

“The wives of the Messenger of Allah joined together against him out of jealousy, so I said to them, ‘Perhaps his Lord, if he divorces you, will give him in your place wives better than you’ [al-Tahrīm: 5]. Then it was revealed in those very words.”

٤٣٥ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، قثنا هُشَيْمٌ قَالَ أنا حُمَيْدٌ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ: قَالَ عُمَرُ: وَافَقْتُ رَبِّي فِي ثَلَاثٍ، قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، لَوِ اتَّخَذْتَ مِنْ مَقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلًّى، فَنَزَلَتْ: ﴿وَاتَّخِذُوا مِنْ مَقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلًّى﴾ [البقرة: ١٢٥] ، وَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنَّ نِسَاءَكَ يَدْخُلُ عَلَيْهِنَّ الْبَرُّ وَالْفَاجِرُ، فَلَوْ أَمَرْتَهُنَّ أَنْ يَحْتَجِبْنَ، فَنَزَلَتْ آيَةُ الْحِجَابِ، وَاجْتَمَعَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ نِسَاؤُهُ فِي الْغَيْرَةِ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُنَّ: ﴿عَسَى رَبُّهُ إِنْ طَلَّقَكُنَّ أَنْ يُبْدِلَهُ أَزْوَاجًا خَيْرًا مِنْكُنَّ﴾ [التحريم: ٥] ، فَنَزَلَتْ كَذَلِكَ.
