45 — ‘Abdullāh narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me: Yahyā ibn Ādam narrated to us: Mālik ibn Mighwal narrated to us, from Habīb ibn Abī Thābit, from ‘Abd Khayr, from ‘Alī; and from al-Sha‘bī, from Abū Juhayfah, from ‘Alī; and from ‘Awn ibn Abī Juhayfah, from his father, from ‘Alī, who said:
“The best of this community after its Prophet is Abū Bakr, and its best after Abū Bakr is ‘Umar. If I wished, I could name the third.”
٤٥ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، قثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ قثنا مَالِكُ بْنُ مِغْوَلٍ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ خَيْرٍ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، وَعَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ وَعَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: خَيْرُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ بَعْدَ نَبِيِّهَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَخَيْرُهَا بَعْدَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عُمَرُ، وَلَوْ شِئْتُ سَمَّيْتُ الثَّالِثَ.
