423 - ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, saying: Abū Bahr ʿAbd al-Wāhid ibn Ghiyāth al-Basrī narrated to me, saying: Abū ʿAwānah narrated to us, from Khālid ibn ʿAlqamah, from ʿAbd Khayr, who said: After he had finished dealing with the people of Basra, ʿAlī said:

“Indeed, the best of this community after its Prophet is Abū Bakr, and after Abū Bakr, ʿUmar. And we have done things concerning which Allah will do as He pleases.”
