413 - ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, saying: Mansūr ibn Abī Muzāhim narrated to me, saying: Khālid al-Zayyāt narrated to us, saying: ʿAwn ibn Abī Juhayfah narrated to me, saying:

My father was one of ʿAlī’s guards and was stationed below the pulpit. My father told me that he—meaning ʿAlī—ascended the pulpit, praised and extolled Allah, invoked blessings upon the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and said:

“The best of this community after its Prophet is Abū Bakr, and the second is ʿUmar.”

He also said: “Allah places goodness wherever He pleases.”
