409 - ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn Wāqid, Abū Muslim, narrated to me, saying: Sharīk narrated to us, from Abū Ishāq al-Shaybānī, from ʿĀmir, from Abū Juhayfah, who said: ʿAlī ibn Abī Tālib said:
“The best of this community after its Prophet is Abū Bakr, and after Abū Bakr, ʿUmar. If I wished to tell you who the third is, I would.”
He meant himself, and spelled it out خ.
٤٠٩ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ وَاقِدٍ أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ قثنا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ: خَيْرُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ بَعْدَ نَبِيِّهَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَبَعْدَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عُمَرُ، وَلَوْ شِئْتُ أَنْ أُحَدِّثَكُمْ بِالثَّالِثِ لَفَعَلْتُ، يَعْنِي نَفْسَهُ وَتَهَجَّاهُ خ.
