398 - ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us: Abū al-Fadl al-Khurāsānī narrated to me: Hannād ibn al-Sarī narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn Muhammad al-Muhāribī narrated to us, from Abū Mūsā al-Farrāʾ, the client of ʿAmr ibn Hurayth: ʿAmr ibn Hurayth narrated to us, saying:
I heard ʿAlī say, while delivering a sermon from the pulpit, “Shall I tell you who is the best of this nation after its Prophet? Abū Bakr. Shall I tell you who is second? Indeed, the second is ʿUmar.”
٣٩٨ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْفَضْلِ الْخُرَاسَانِيُّ قثنا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ قثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الْفَرَّاءِ مَوْلَى عَمْرِو بْنِ حُرَيْثٍ قثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ حُرَيْثٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ بَعْدَ نَبِيِّهَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِالثَّانِي؟ فَإِنَّ الثَّانِيَ عُمَرُ.
