40 — ‘Abdullāh narrated to us: Sālih ibn ‘Abdullāh al-Tirmidhī narrated to us: Hammād ibn Zayd narrated to us, from ‘Āsim ibn Abī al-Najūd, from Zirr ibn Hubaysh, from Abū Juhayfah, who said: I heard ‘Alī say:
“Shall I tell you who is the best of this community after its Prophet? Abū Bakr.” Then he said: “Shall I tell you who is the best of this community after Abū Bakr? ‘Umar.”
٤٠ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قثنا صَالِحُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ التِّرْمِذِيُّ قثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ أَبِي النَّجُودِ، عَنْ زِرِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ، عَنْ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا يَقُولُ: أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ بَعْدَ نَبِيِّهَا؟ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ بَعْدَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ؟ عُمَرُ.
