387 – ‘Abdullāh narrated to us: Abū Humayd narrated to me: Mu‘āwiyah—that is, Ibn Hafs—narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Talhah al-Yāmī narrated to us. Muhammad ibn Talhah said: Abū ‘Ubaydah also narrated to me, from al-Hakam ibn Jahl, who said:

I heard ‘Alī say: “I have learned that some people consider me superior to Abū Bakr and ‘Umar. Whoever considers me superior to Abū Bakr and ‘Umar, I will flog him with the prescribed punishment for a slanderer.”
