39 - ‘Abd Allāh narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me, saying: Abū Nu‘aym narrated to us, saying: Yūnus narrated to us, saying: Al-‘Ayzār ibn Hurayth narrated to us, saying: Al-Nu‘mān ibn Bashīr said:

Abū Bakr sought permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and heard ‘Ā’isha saying in a loud voice, “By Allah, I know full well that ‘Alī is dearer to you than my father”—repeating this twice or three times. Abū Bakr sought permission and entered. He reached toward her and said, “O daughter of so-and-so! Do I hear you raising your voice at the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace?”
